Without repeating previous work, this sub-component will entail a rapid collation of information across the OSPAR Region IV. The action will provide an initial overview of the area’s characteristics including, for example: the marine enviromnent; maritime activities; key sectorial and socio-economic trends and emerging pressures, legal issues, governance. The assessment will use existing information gathered in the framework of OSPAR, MFSD, CFP, WFD, HBD, SEA/EIA, EU projects like TPEA…

This action will be based mainly on desk-based reviews and aims at building a shared synthetic view on the Northem European Atlantic region, identifying key issues (main activities and priority conservation issues) and data gaps. It must be underlined that cross-border planning is relevant and should be included: only few pilot studies have been developed, Member States’ experience and cooperation are currently limited. Consideration will be given to the data and knowledge gaps for MSP, and where future data-gathering efforts might best be focused, feeding through to C1.2.2

Outputs: Summary of information on the marine and maritime aspects relevant for MSP in the Northern European Atlantic, particularly cross-border issues, starting from existing work of relevance to MSP.
